3 Critical Timing Measurements

Three measurements every engineer should check when bringing a system online—and keep checking over time.

The key one is PTP vs FPT (First Packet Time). This tells you if your system is actually behaving correctly—not just what the dashboard says.

If PTP and FPT don’t line up, you may not see issues right away. But under load, during a switch, or in production, those small offsets can turn into real problems.

So take those three core measurements at setup—but don’t stop there. Recheck them as the system runs. Networks change, traffic shifts, and timing drift can creep in over time.
